1-on-1 coaching

Personal coaching for cyclists

I coach cyclists with a personal training plan that fits their goals, the time they have and the way they recover. Whether you are building towards a gran fondo, a gravel race or a road race: your sessions are ready and waiting in your training software.

I am Tycho Parmentier, cycling coach and movement scientist, with an MSc in Human Movement Sciences and an MSc in Cell and Molecular Biology. I translate what I know about exercise physiology into practical choices in your training plan. More about me.

Who is this coaching for?

Curiosity and communication count for more than your FTP.

Building towards a gran fondo or a long ride

Working towards one or two big goals in the year. Building your training up in a structured way, through specific polarised blocks and testing your progress along the way.

Goals in gravel or road races

You race, and your training has to match what those races ask of you. We shape the build-up around your race calendar, with room to recover between the blocks.

Training with more purpose alongside work, study or family

The plan takes your daily life as it is and works out how to train around it, in the way that gets you fit most efficiently.

How coaching works

From your goals to a plan that moves with you.

  1. 1

    Building the plan together

I translate your goals, training background and available time into a season build-up and concrete training blocks, with a place for races, training camps and recovery.

  2. 2

    Your workouts are ready

Your sessions are ready in Intervals.icu or TrainingPeaks. You know what you are going to do and why that session is in your plan.

  3. 3

    Reviewing and adjusting

In Premium I look at your training data at least once a week. Twice a month we discuss your progress by phone. If your week changes, you can let me know in between via WhatsApp.

I update your workouts when your execution, your recovery or your week gives reason to. Changing a plan more often does not make it better by itself; the plan has to fit what is happening.

What the analysis covers

The plan is only the visible part. At every review I look at three things.

  • Execution

Did the session you completed, and how hard it felt, match the purpose of that session?

  • Development

What do comparable sessions, performances and any available tests show over time?

  • Looking ahead

Does the current load fit your recovery, your available time and your upcoming goals, or does the plan need to change?

What riders say

“Tycho's knowledge of exercise physiology gives me a lot of confidence in my training plan. There is also always room to exchange ideas about training theory with him, so I learn a lot myself as well.”
Pascal · 5th Scratch & Omnium, Junior World Championships
“I have recently been trained and coached by Tycho, he creates my training schedule and keeps close contact with how it's going and what I think of it.”
Tijmen · Para-cyclist
“Since Tycho started coaching me, I have made huge progress. I now know how to build myself up towards a race or a tournament. He also gives me the freedom to make my own adjustments during my training sessions.”
Noery · National-level junior, rode the Junior Track World Championships
“I immediately noticed Tycho knew what he was doing. That made me believe in the plan and keep training. Thanks to him, I now have the best form of my life.”
Keimpe · Amateur cyclist
“He pushed me hard and helped me get the most out of the training, but it always felt controlled and well thought out rather than just being intense for the sake of it.”
Max · Amateur cyclist

One-off training consultation

Want to talk your training through with a clear focus? In a 60-minute conversation I look at your question, your training build-up and the choices for your next step with you.

60 minutes · €120

You send your main question and relevant training information beforehand. For a complex question I first agree with you which approach and how much time it needs.

Suitable topics

  • How training blocks, intervals and recovery fit together.

For groups

Clinics and workshops

Besides one-to-one coaching I give clinics and workshops for cycling clubs, teams, companies and groups on a training camp. Not a general talk: I tailor the content to the level and the questions of the group, and explain what the physiology means for how you train.

Topics

  • Training by thresholds: what LT1, LT2 and your zones mean.
  • Building a season or a training block.
  • Pacing and fuelling for a gran fondo or race.
  • Preparing for a training camp, heat or altitude.

Length, location and price by arrangement

Tell me who the group is, how large, and what you want to know. I will send you a proposal.

Frequently asked questions

All frequently asked questions
What is the difference between coaching and a training plan from an app?

A standard plan assumes an average rider and a week that goes as planned. Smart apps adapt to the workouts you complete, but they do not know why a session failed, how you slept or what the rest of your week asks of you. I look at your data and at your story, and adjust your plan on that. We also discuss your goals, your season and the choices an app does not make for you.

How do I choose between Premium and Pro?

Premium is for ambitious riders who want structured, personal guidance: I review your data at least once a week, we talk twice a month and you can reach me via WhatsApp in between. Pro is for riders working towards professional level and for established professionals who want close collaboration: a call at least once a week and at least three reviews a week. Not sure? Choose ‘Not sure yet’ in the intake and I will tell you what fits.

How much time do I need for coaching?

I build your plan around the time you really have, not the other way round. With few hours it matters more that every session has a purpose; with many hours recovery becomes the limit. In the intake I ask about your work, your family and your fixed moments, so the plan fits your week.

What if my training week changes?

In Premium and Pro you can let me know in between. Changes in your week? Send me a WhatsApp message. On working days I usually reply within four hours. In Basic we discuss changes in the monthly review.

What happens after my intake?

Intakes receive a personal reply within two working days. I first review your goals, background and availability. If coaching is a good fit, we agree on the package and starting point before any paid work begins.

Is coaching also for a beginner?

Yes. A good build pays off most at the start, and you learn to keep your easy rides easy instead of riding every ride equally hard. You do not need race experience, nor a power meter: I work with the data you have.

What are the term and cancellation arrangements?

You can cancel with one month's notice. The minimum term is one month. You pay monthly by invoice. The full agreements are in the terms and conditions.

Your next season can start here.

I reply to your application within two working days.
